We’re proud to share that Eco Guardian was recently featured in a national news story by The Canadian Press, examining how Canadian manufacturers are adapting to the ongoing trade war between Canada and the United States.
The story, published across outlets including CTV News, highlights how foodservice businesses across the country are actively seeking out Canadian-made take-out packaging as tariffs reshape the supply chain, and how Eco Guardian’s early decision to source raw material outside the United States has positioned us to meet that demand.

Canadian paper cup and bowl maker sees growing local demand amid tariffs — The Canadian Press, via CTV News
The piece includes an interview with our Founder and CEO, Anil Abrol, who explains the decision behind our supply chain and what it means for Canadian foodservice businesses navigating the current trade environment.
The Backstory Behind the Headline
As the article details, Eco Guardian was in discussions with a U.S. paperboard supplier when the first round of tariff threats emerged. Rather than wait to see how the trade situation would unfold, we changed course early and moved our raw material sourcing to Asia and Europe.
That decision, made well before the current round of tariffs took effect, is now the reason our cups and bowls fall outside the scope of Canada’s retaliatory tariffs, and outside the scope of a separate federal investigation into Chinese-origin paperboard cups.
The result, as the article notes, is a surge of interest from coffee chains, fast-food restaurants, and foodservice distributors looking to move their packaging supply chain onto Canadian-made ground.
Why This Matters for Our Customers and Partners
Being featured by a national news outlet is a meaningful moment for our team, but the story itself points to something bigger than one company. It reflects a broader shift happening across Canadian foodservice right now, as businesses reassess where their packaging comes from and look for suppliers who aren’t caught up in the trade war.
We built our Aurora, Ontario facility with exactly that kind of resilience in mind, and it’s rewarding to see that work recognized on a national stage.
Considering Your Own Packaging Supply Chain?
